Attendance is very important at Chamiza and APS. Teachers begin instruction, academics and/or social skills, as soon as the tardy bell rings. When a student is late or absent, valuable learning time has been lost and can not be reclaimed.

Please make sure your student is in line ready to go to class by 7:40 AM. Tardies and absences add up quickly in lost instructional time. If your child is tardy (arriving after the 2nd bell), a parent/guardian will need to sign him/her in at the front office.

Should your child(ren) need to be absent, as illness, emergencies and appointments do occur, please make sure to call our attendance line at 897–5174, then press 2, if your child(ren) will be absent. Then, on the next day at school, please provide the clerk with a copy of a doctor's, or other, note stating the reason for the absence. Any student who is absent without a call from the family will be counted as an unexcused absence.

Please try to schedule appointments on Wednesday afternoons or as late in the day as possible to limit absences, early releases, or late arrivals. If you do have an appointment, please ask the doctor for a note for school to bring the next school day.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

Signing students out at the end of the day does pose a disruption to the classroom as teachers are finishing with end of day instructions.  If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please arrive before 1:50 pm as we avoid releasing students the last 30 minutes of the day.
